Mascarpone, the Italian Cream Cheese

feature photo

Like wine, cheese has become extremely popular and can bring out the best of flavors when perfectly combined with specific foods and drinks. Italy offers a wide range of delicious cheeses but probably one great example – second to mozzarella – would be the mascarpone which is the secret ingredient of the popular dessert “tiramisu”. Its rich texture and delicate flavor will keep you wanting for more. You can also try it spread on top of toasted bread with a drop of extra virgin olive oil.

Here in the States, cream cheese is the closest you can get, but yet, mascarpone provides you a different twist and unique Italian experience. It is distinctive because this cheese is made from the milk of cows that are fed with special herbs and flowers.
